Recruiting reopened · 28 October 2026
The doorsare open.
Real current through a hole on the bench in Arizona, 23 June 2026, slowed twentyfold. Mostly noise. We don't fake it.
Epic Quest Bio is the role-playing game that runs a real biotech company. We're on an epic quest to free mankind from disease. All sentient beings subject to disease are welcome to play.
The site promised it would say so loudly, on its own front page, when the doors opened again. This is the loud part.
This is a real campaign
Epic Quest Bio is how Molecular Reality Corporation runs itself, and the adventure is building the company. Kent Kemmish, the founder, is the gamemaster. While it's small, it's a tabletop campaign, run "directly communicating with all players while we're still small enough to do it that way". In his words: "It'll be messy and improvised, like the start of a real adventure should be."
Make a character
Two classes: a major for what you're actually good at, and a minor for what you want to get better at. Keltar interviews you, by text or by voice, or you answer the questions yourself. Five minutes.
Take a quest
Real work the company needs done, posted on a real board and judged by the gamemaster, from a 10 XP bug bounty to a 250,000 XP pool for recruiting. XP is the game's record of who did what. You can't buy it, sell it or trade it.
Hear from the gamemaster
Kent reads every sign-up and writes back to each new player himself, and follows up on every quest a player takes on.
The board, right now
Open quests, live from the company's board. The gamemaster switches them on and off; this list is whatever is open this minute.
- Loading the board…
Nine classes
"all the roles that one can play in a biotech startup can be thought of as 'character classes', just like those in D&D." Classes carry no statistics. They say who you are.
What's real
Real science today.
- One instrument in one lab, in the Phoenix area of Arizona, streaming the current through its hole to anyone with a browser.
- Eighteen archived recordings from June 2026, all at 200,000 samples a second. Ketchup is on the sample shelf, kept at 4°C, waiting its turn.
- An open desktop nanopore reader design, the MR1, in the public domain since 21 October 2026. Designed and simulated. Nobody has built one yet.
Dreams flagged as dreams.
- A future free of disease.
- Molecular sensors in sinks, drains and air vents, with all the data under each household's own control.
- Reading DNA through a hole in solid material. Nobody has published it. The quest for it is worth 9,900,000 XP.
Story flagged as story.
- Keltar: a one-eyed felt puppet who lives in a red mug, an exodimensional advisor in the story, voiced by an AI in fact. He says so himself.
- Irrationalis, Dragon of Excessive Pessimism, who lives at the bottom of the Disclosure Crawl.
A note from the gamemaster
Hi, it's Kent (the human one, not the puppet). I started this company in 2018 with an odd idea about sliding two holes past each other to make a hole you can tune, and I've been turning it into a role-playing game since 2021, partly because of the Dungeons & Dragons campaigns I played as a kid and partly because I honestly think a game is the only way frontier biotech ever becomes something regular people get to do, not just read about...
We're small, the bench is real, the puppet is real (felt, anyway), and the quests are real work. I read every sign-up and I write back to every new player myself, so come through the door and say hi!
