- MR1 Nanopore Reader, an open-source design for a desktop nanopore instrument, released on October 16, 2026, and in the public domain under CC0 since October 21. It was earlier called the Sentinel Nanopore Reader and Daemon Pore. Its status line reads "Designed. Simulated. Built and measured: not yet."
- MR1 Molecular Streaming Device, an earlier handheld research device about the size of a large smartphone, also called the MR1 Handheld Molecular Streamer, which the company describes as "one of several prototypes the team has built over the years"
Biology
- MR1 (gene), the human gene for the MHC class I-related protein, which presents vitamin B metabolites made by bacteria to mucosal-associated invariant T cells
- Shewanella oneidensis MR-1, a strain of bacterium isolated from the sediments of Oneida Lake, New York, that can grow by passing electrons to manganese oxide
